IELTS - General and Academic Modules
Testing General and Academic English Communication
There are two types of IELTS: Academic and General Training. Listening and Speaking are the same for both tests, but the subject matter of the Reading and Writing sections differs depending on which test you take. The Listening, Reading and Writing sections of all IELTS tests are completed on the same day, with no breaks in between them. The Speaking section, however, can be completed up to a week before or after the other tests. Your test center will advise. The total test time is 2 hours and 45 minutes
Incorporating IT in Testing and Evaluation
IELTS is the world’s most popular test of English for higher education and global migration. Now IELTS Academic and General Training testing on computer are being introduced widely in IELTS institutes to provide more options to test takers and the IELTS institutes and training centers.
Computer-delivered IELTS has its own pros and cons for test takers. With computer-delivered IELTS there are more test dates available, test takers can choose IELTS at a time convenient for them, and they will receive their results in 5 to 7 days.
The Test Report Form, content, timing and structure of the test is the same whether you take the test on paper or on computer and the Speaking test is always face-to-face with a certified IELTS Examiner.
If you choose to take computer-delivered IELTS, you will take the Listening, Reading and Writing test using a computer. All aspects of the test are identical to paper-based IELTS, including:
*In the computer-delivered Listening test, the timings are slightly different from the paper-based test. This is because the paper-based test requires users to transfer answers to an answer sheet. This step becomes redundant when answering directly on a computer.
Before the start of each part of the Listening test you will have some time to read the questions.
After the end of each part of the Listening test you will have some time to review your answers.
At the end of the Listening test, you will have 2 minutes to check your answers.
A Traditional Style of Testing
This test requires test takers to sit at a desk with the question papers and answer sheets for the Reading, Listening and Writing tests in an official IELTS test center. Test takers will write their answers in either pen or HB-pencils. The Speaking test is carried out face-to-face with a trained IELTS examiner.
